Peebles Callants Club

The Royal Burgh of Peebles Callants club was formed in 1935 with its core and substance based around the Peebles Beltane Festival.

The Scots dictionary states that the word 'callant' simply means ' a young man or lad of the town'. Though the Callants Club is entirely a male organisation not all members will fall into the category of being 'young men' nor is it that all members were born in the town, many of our members have worn the club badge with pride having come to live in Peebles from outwith the Royal and Ancient Burgh.

Conceived within the very core of the Beltane Festival, the clubs first constitution was created in 1937, but the first inaugural meeting was on Beltane Friday in 1936, folowed by the very first Callants Supper.

The Callants Club continues in the tradition of helping develop and nurture the Beltane festival as one of the best summer festival occasion in the Borders.

The Callants Club is and had been involved in other community projects and fund raising. Some of the Projects undertaken can be seen on the club website. Fund raising includes but is not limited to Treasure Hunts, Duck Races, and Coffee Mornings.
